Monsoon Evening

Mad rush in the bus today,
Smoke from cars and bikes on the way
Long hours at work, no time to play
Travel this far, all for the sick pay.

Evening, she came, knowing my gripe,
Clouds formed, like smoke puff from a pipe
Down she beckoned us all, me and my types.
To the tea kadai, we went, the youth tribe

Glasses brimmed with kaapi and tea,
Hot vadas, under the veppelai tree,
“such a mellow break from this daily grind”,
ran silly thoughts in my mind..

After all the grime and heat ,
whilst drudging in the scorching street,
Down the svelte lane
How refreshing is the rain?
